WSSC Women’s Symposium 2022 Purple Diamond Award Winner: Danielle Radin

WSSC Women's Symposium Honors and Recognizes 2022 Purple Diamond Award Winner Danielle Radin at 6th Annual Women's event in honor of International Women's Day (IWD)

The best part of my job is meeting new people and hearing their stories,” Danielle Radin shared in her interview as this year’s WSSC Women’s Symposium 2022 Purple Diamond Award Winner. “And I love the creative process of telling the story, taping it, editing it, working on the best camera angle before it airs.” As an NBC journalist, Danielle puts on no airs. An undergraduate of Cal Berkeley, with a graduate degree from Stanford, she is a hard-working advocate for local and digital news. As the first and only digital correspondent for NBC San Diego, she spearheaded initiatives to bring community issues to social media and streaming platforms never before used in the market.

Danielle began her career Fox 5 in San Diego as a morning personality and a digital anchor. News at the local level is very important, I think,” she said. “And I could see news being presented at the digital level was coming, so I knew I had to get on the band wagon! So I did.” During the pandemic, Danielle consulted with a start-up national television network to set up West Coast operations a bureau chief in Los Angeles, interviewing and small business owners about their struggles during quarantine.

When asked about her coverage of the Gabby Petito case, she responded, “I was told that my videos reached millions of viewers as I discovered unique clues through social media.” She also brought awareness to other cases involving missing women in Southern California. Danielle now works for CBS Los Angeles producing local stories with national appeal. In addition, she serves as an ambassador and certified domestic violence counselor through Laura’s House, an Orange county non-profit that helps women and teens find transitional housing and emergency resources.

An author of three books, a jazz pianist … “I love Miles Davis…” a hiker and a traveler, this journalist hardly slows down. Asked about her thoughts on the criticism of the media today, she responded, “I wish there was not so much mistrust of the news today, but I understand why. I am grateful to have a career that I love.” When asked what her most interesting interview was today, she said, “I once had to do a live broadcast riding a roller-coaster! It was hard!” she laughed.

That moment may have been hard, but nothing is too hard for our WSSC Women’s Symposium Purple Diamond Winner to tackle. Her success and her generosity shine through her professional life as well as her volunteer life. Simply said, she is a huge asset to the women who watch and know her.

Local elected Councilwomen Sandra Massa-Leavitt, City of Seal Beach, will be presenting Danielle’s honorary award at the 6th Annual Women’s Symposium, an IRS tax exempt 501(c)(3) public nonprofit hybrid Zoom event. This year’s theme is Bloom & Achieve. Join us on Friday, March 4, 2022, for an afternoon of confidence in honor of International Women’s Day (IWD). For WSSC Women’s Symposium event.
